Clean My PC : What, Why and How
Certainly, I am not referring to cleaning the external parts of the computer or its component or peripherals. E.g. monitor, keyboard, DVD drive, mouse, headphones, motherboard, printers or etc. What I am referring to is Windows Registry.
“What is the Windows Registry”? The Windows Registry is the Windows component that has all the information about the computer and the software installed on the computer. The Windows registry main purpose is to store the configuration of the different software programs loaded on the computer, the hardware installed or connected to the computer and any other special settings you have implemented. You can think of the registry as Windows way of remembering which printer you prefer; what files you accessed most recently; where to find your hard drive; etc.
You may ask, “Why do I need to clean my PC? When you install software, new registry entries will be created. These entries should be deleted automatically when you uninstall the software. Unfortunately, it is not always true. These entries then become obsolete, invalid and gradually accumulate in the Windows Registry. Things like Malware and Spyware also add extra keys to the Registry. In no time, the registry becomes bloated with unnecessary entries. Consequently, your PC starts to slow down and a host of other problems starts to pop up. E.g. ActiveX errors, driver errors, blue screen errors, DLL errors, system crashes. This leads to productivity lost, frustration or even worst…lost of important data. Timely cleaning and fixing of the registry will prevent you from encountering such issues.
Let’s move on to what are the benefits of cleaning my PC.
• Your computer will have a cleaned up registry and no information in the registry will be cluttered.
• You free up disk space. Thus, you will have more space to install new software.
• Registry cleaning will also block the installation of spyware and adware in your computer.
• No more weird error messages that pops-up.
• Your computer will perform much faster, better and almost as good as new.
Knowing the advantages of cleaning my PC, “How do I clean my PC then? “ Well, there are two ways that you can do it. Firstly, you can clean your PC manually. Following are the steps to do it manually.
1. From the Start menu, choose Run.
2. In the command line, type REGEDIT and click OK. This will launch Registry Editor.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall
4. Expand the Uninstall sub key. You will see many sub keys with braces. {}
5. Search for the software name. Once found, right click the sub key with braces and select Delete.
Note: If you cannot find the software name, click on the DisplayName string on the right window pane. Look in the Value Data field to find out the software name.
6. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
7. Close the Registry Editor by clicking on the ‘X’ button at the top right corner.
Using the above steps, I can clean my PC for free. However, it is very, very important that you know exactly what you are doing, where you are doing it and how you are doing it you. I need to caution you that one simple mistake could render your computer inoperable, unusable and lead to other greater problems. I am sure you want to avoid that.
So what is the much safer, better and faster choice? This brings me to the second method i.e. to use a registry cleaning software. A registry cleaning software scans the windows and finds out the outdated and wrong information stored in your computer registry. The software fixes this information, thus enabling your computer to be error free and run faster. To find a software that suits you, do check reviews on sites like ZDNET, CNET, PC World or PC Magazine.
As for me, I use this software to repair PC errors, speed up PC and clean my PC. It works fine for me, saves my time and removes all the frustrations that come with a slow PC. With this software, I can move on with other more important tasks that I want to do with my PC. Click here to download it to your PC and you can start using it immediately.
